Building Inspection Information

Building inspections require a 24 hour advance notice.

Building Department office hours: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mon-Fri.

No office hours or inspections on weekends or holidays.

Special office hours can be made by appointment.

Electric Requirements
All of the following information is taken from the 2002 National Electric Code.

  1. For all services, the bonding method in section 250.92(B) must be met. The bond wire in the panel must go to the enclosure via solid lug or ground bar and be sized to 250.66 prior to the first disconnect and 250.122 after the first disconnect means.

  2. Duct seal will be required at the electrical services on the meter socket side of the pipe run to panel. 230.8, 300.5(G) and 300.7(A).

  3. The grounding electrodes (rod) must have 25 ohms or less or a second ground rod must be installed not less than 6 feet from the first rod to comply with section 250.56.

  4. Interior metal water and fuel piping systems shall be bonded. In addition, structural shall be bonded and the wire shall be sized to 250.66 to comply with 250.104.

  5. All outlets must be the self-grounding type per 250.146(B) and all GFI & AFI outlets must have a bonding jumper installed to the box via a listed clip or screw and the wire must be sized to comply with 250.122.

  6. All Garvin/Surface cover outlets must have a bonding jumper installed to the box via a listed clip or screw per 250.146(a) and wire size to comply with 250.122.

  7. All outside outlets must meet 406.8(a). (In use covers).

  8. 3/8" Greenfield cannot be used for wiring an outlet per section 348.20.

  9. All hydromassage tubs and spa motors must be bonded with a solid #8 wire to the cold water pipe at the time of rough in inspection. 680.74.

  10. Grounding conductors # 6 and smaller shall be identified by being bare, green or green with yellow stripe, not tape marked. 250.119.

  11. Class 2 wiring must remain separate from class 1 wiring 725.54.

  12. All panel, meter sockets and air conditioner disconnects shall be installed to comply with the working clearances specified within section 110.26.

  13. Wire fill for boxes and junction boxes shall be installed to 314.16.

  14. Wires shall be looped or pigtailed to outlets in multiwire branch circuits. 300.13(b).

  15. All branch circuits that supply receptacle outlets in a dwelling unit bedroom shall be protected by an arc-fault circuit interrupter(s). 210.12(b).

  16. All outlets must follow the 6'/12' rule 210.50(a)(1).

  17. Boxes, plaster rings, domed covers, extension rings and so forth are to be marked legibly with their volume, or are boxes in which dimensions are listed in table 314.16(a).

  18. All appliances, outlets, switches, lights, and other devices must listed or labeled by a recognized third party inspection agency and installed per manufacturers instructions 110.3(b).

  19. Panelboards installed in basements are considered to be installed in a damp location, and need to have a ¼" airspace provided between the enclosure and the basement wall or mounted to wood 312.2(a).
