The City of Harvard is excited to introduce the Citizens in Action Awards, a community recognition program honoring residents and local groups who take action to improve our community. These awards celebrate residents, youth, and organizations whose efforts strengthen Harvard and inspire others. Nominations are accepted on a rolling basis, with awardees recognized quarterly at City Council meetings. Help us celebrate the people who make Harvard a great place to live. Submit your nomination online or request a paper form at City Hall.
Nominee Eligibility
· Must be a resident, organization, or group contributing positively to the community.
· All ages are eligible.
· Nominees cannot be current elected officials.
· Actions or initiatives must have occurred within the past 6 months.
Award Categories
1. Individual Achievement – Recognizes outstanding personal contributions.
2. Community Group or Organization – Recognizes collective impact of a team or nonprofit.
3. Youth Leadership – Recognizes young citizens (under 18) making a difference.
4. Innovation & Creativity – Recognizes creative approaches and solutions to community challenges.
Nomination Process
1. Submission: Nominations are submitted using a city-approved form (online or on paper at City Hall). A synopsis of 250 words or less is required. Supplemental documents such as photographs, flyers, or impact slides are welcome.
2. Deadline: Nominations are accepted on a rolling basis, and selections are reviewed and awarded quarterly.
3. Review: A selection committee will review submissions and award quarterly.
4. Selection: Winners are chosen based on impact, dedication, and community benefit.
5. Recognition: Awardees will be honored during City Council Meetings throughout the year.
Evaluation Criteria
· Impact: How has the nominee made a measurable difference in the community?
· Dedication: Level of commitment and effort demonstrated.
· Innovation: Unique or creative solutions to community issues.
· Inspiration: Ability to motivate or encourage others to contribute.
